The Farnesi Palace in Ortona (CH) presents
“The most beautiful sea I navigated”
Igino Stella, 77 years old, from Ascoli Piceno, has started painting at the end of the ’60s. In 1988, he begins his wood carvings, giving a concrete form to a language which is already expressive and complete, full of chromatic fantasies. His compositions seem to be suspended between flights and comings back, rude accelerations and burning brakings. They are rainbows that leave behind a sign of immortal creativity. This man surprises and makes his own history; in his genuine simplicity, he has cut for himself a field of luxurious marvels, deserving the respect and the consideration that define the free spirits. “Capture the incredible in the most ordinary actions, always wonder. Life is full of shows and forms that must upset us for their disconnection with the surrounding world. But, why don’t we take a moment to note them and wonder? If we do it, we will ask for an answer, and maybe nothing and no one will answer us” (E. Flaiano, Diario notturno, Taccuino 1946, ed. Adelphi).
Hegel thinks that death is only the end of life: so, find suddenly something or someone can leave us astonished, incredulous, dismayed or confused but never indifferent. This can be enough for people that know they can’t expect an answer anymore.
